About Roof Space
Roof Space connects people that need to send their large sports items sent with people who are travelling that way - utilising roof rack space, trailer space or inside the vehicle.
Think ‘Uber’ but for long distance transportation of sports items.
For people sending items, we provide a cost effective, safe and convenient way to send oversized, fragile sports items - such as surf skis, multi-sport boats, SUPs, kayaks or surfboards.
Verified drivers earn from $40-$1600 per trip by transporting items on their roady turning the utilised space into cash. They are surfers, kayakers, athletes and sports enthusiasts who understand the special care of handling large, fragile sports items.
Our story
“ In July 2021, I needed a longboard surfboard relocated from Christchurch to Tauranga. I called a Christchurch freight company and received a quote for $450, nearly half the value of the board. In the back of my mind I knew of damage to my friend's surf boards and kayaks by freight companies. I declined the quote.
Coming from a background in water sports, I knew from personal experience how sports communities are always on the road for adventures, competitions or for work with space on roof racks, trailers or inside vehicles. Why was there not one place to post your item or the trip you are making to offer to transport items.
I made a Facebook group called Roof Space NZ and the idea of the group was to connect sporting communities in one place.
A week later after growing the group, Peter reached out to me offering to transport my longboard as he was heading back home from Christchurch. I paid Peter $100 for his help and was stoked saving $350. Most importantly I knew it was in safe hands and Peter got a full tank of gas for a trip he was making anyway.
A win/win situation.
